Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure;
Saved from wrath and made me pure.
Not the labors of my hands
Could fulfill Thy laws demands.
Could my zeal no respite know?
Could my tears forever flow?
All for sin could not atone,
Thou hast saved,and Thou alone.
Nothing in my hand I bring;
Simply to my Lord I cling.
Naked, came to Thee for dress;
Helpless looked to Thee for grace;
Jesus did His blood apply
For my sin-cursed soul did die.
While I draw this fleeting breath,
When my eyes shall close in death,
When I rise to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy glorious throne;
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.
As I go through Judgment Day,
By Thy Word show me the way.
Christ the Rock in which I hide,
Lead me on and be my Guide,
Rock of Ages cleft for me
Hide me always safe in Thee!
