Come, Thou long expected Jesus

Thou hast set Thy people free;

From our fears and sins released us

We have found our rest in Thee.

Israel’s Strength and Consolation,

Hope of all the earth Thou art;

Dear Desire of every nation

Joy of every longing heart.

Jesus came from highest heaven,

Holy God in likeness of men.

Left His bright and glorious kingdom

To be born in Bethlehem.

Prophets did foretell His coming,

Watching for His holy birth.

Christ the Scriptures thus fulfilling,

He descended to the earth.

Christ the Lord has come in judgment,

Over earth He rules as King.

All His people He delivered;

Now Thy glorious Kingdom bring.

By Thine own eternal Spirit

Rule in all our hearts alone;

By Thine all sufficient merit

Raise us to Thy glorious Throne.
